Girard opens season with pair of victories

The Indians beat Boardman and Canfield.
BOARDMAN -- The Girard High volleyball team opened its season with victories over Boardman and Canfield.
Girard 18-25-25,Boardman 25-23-22
BOARDMAN -- Aysha Nickels led the Indians with 31 assists, 22 points, four aces and two blocks. Elise Roscoe had nine kills, 10 points, one ace and four blocks. Mari Flynn had nine kills.
Courtney Schiffauer led the Spartans with eight blocks. Adrienne Porter had four kills.
JVs: Boardman 25-9, 25-9.
Girard 11-25-25,Canfield 25-21-19
BOARDMAN -- Roscoe paced the Indians (2-0) with 13 kills, seven points and five digs. Nickles had 31 assists. Ashley Palmer had 10 digs, nine points. Cassie Guerrieri had eight digs, nine points and three aces.
For Canfield, Jackie Nentwick scored 13 points with an ace, Kelsey Owen made 11 kills, Courtney Rothbauer made 13 assists, Amanda Colonna made 11 assists and Kalie Luklan made eight blocks.
Boardman 25-25, Canfield 18-20
BOARDMAN -- Schiffauer and Danielle Bletso, who had four aces, each had six kills.
For Canfield (0-2), Nentwick scored three points with an ace and made six kills. Owen had six kills while Luklan made five blocks.

NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Nora McKelvey scored 13 points, with three aces, to spark the Tigers (1-0). Amanda Harmon had 11 points, 58 sets and 18 assists. Morgan Bonekovic led the Warriors (0-1) with 10 kills, five points, three aces, four blocks and 10 digs. Taralee Williams had eight points, 16 assists, seven digs and two aces.

NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Brittany Schrieber scored 17 points, with four aces and five kills for the Tigers (2-0). Whitney Yeager had six points, two aces, eight kills and six blocks. Megan Gibson led the Red Devils with 11 points, ace, 10 kills and four blocks. Brianna Blodgett had eight points, two aces, seven kills and three digs. Ashley Gibson had eight points and four kills.
Lordstown 25-25,East Palestine 20-23
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Blodgett paced Lordstown (1-1) with 11 points, four kills, three aces, three blocks and two digs. Magan Green had seven points, eight kills, four blocks, two aces and a dig. Chelsea Peterson scored six points and she had two aces and five kills to lead the Bulldogs. Sarah Stewart had four points, three aces, four kills and two blocks.
Brookfield 25-25,East Palestine 13-18
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Taralee Williams scored 17 points, with eight aces, 24 assists and four digs for the Warriors (1-1). Morgan Bonekovic had 18 kills, seven digs, two blocks and a point. Chelsea Peterson led the Bulldogs (0-2) with seven points, two aces and two kills. Logan Guy had 24 sets, six assists and four points.

LIBERTY -- Jessie Szakacs scored 15 points, with four aces and 19 assists to pace the Leopards (1-0). Jessie Knez added 16 points, with four aces and 12 kills. Danielle Ginnetti led the Wildcats with 10 points.

BELOIT -- Amanda Daniels scored 10 points for the Warriors (1-0). Kelsey Wartluft had 11 kills and three blocks, while Sammie Snyder had five assists.

NORTH LIMA -- Annie Semko led the Raiders with six aces and eight kills. Ashley Vaughn had six digs and six kills for South Range. Stephanie Higgins had five kills and five digs for LaBrae. Lindsey Higgins had five assists and five digs.

NORTH LIMA -- Megan Sosnowski led the Raiders (2-0) with 20 assists. Semko had 12 kills. Lainey Kekic led the Blue Devils with 15 points, two aces and six kills. Kailyn Hrabak had seven points, six assists and four kills.

NORTH LIMA -- Brooke Jackson paced the Beavers with 12 points and three kills. Santana Williams had 22 assists. Lainey Kekic led the Blue Devils (0-2) with six points, two aces and five kills.
