Both local teams exit from Series



After getting off to a good start, Youngstown's 14-year-olds lost to Citrus Valley, Calif., 7-6, on Friday.
WILSON, N.C. -- The World Series run for the Youngstown 14-year-old all-stars at the Babe Ruth World Series came to an end Friday night.
Citrus Valley (Calif.) scored four runs in the fifth inning and held off a late rally to defeat Youngstown, 7-6, in the semifinals of the tournament.
Youngstown scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Joe Auluzia singled and scored on a double by Kyle Vaclav. A bases-loaded walk, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly scored Youngstown's other runs.
Citrus answers
Citrus Valley answered with three runs in the second inning and four in the fifth before Youngstown rallied in the sixth.
Raul Pizarro led off with a single, but was forced out at second. Auluzia followed with a run-scoring double and came around to score on an error.
But Anthony Gonzalez of Citrus retired Youngstown in order in the seventh inning to end the game.
Citrus Valley won the World Series championship Saturday with a 7-2 win over Nash County, N.C.
Youngstown 15s
CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. -- The Youngstown Babe Ruth All-Stars lost to West End, Pa., 4-3, Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the World Series.
Youngstown, which finished the tournament with a 2-3 record, led 2-1 in the third inning on a bases-loaded walk and a passed ball.
West End, which scored a run in the second inning, regained the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the third.
Youngstown tied the score at 3 in the sixth. Anthony Franceschelli singled with one out and was pinch run for by Nick Dinello. One out later, Kevin McCulloh singled, scoring Dinello.
West End scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
