Board approves teachers contract
Saturday, August 26, 2006 CORTLAND — Lakeview schools Superintendent Robert Wilson calls a new employees' contract a good step for the district. "I think it's a fair contract for the teachers union, for the district, for the students and for the community," Wilson said. The two-year contract, which goes into effect Friday, gives employees a 2.78 percent raise for the first year and a 2.75 percent raise for the second year. The base salaries after the 2.78 percent raise will range from $29,000 per year to $61,596 depending on the level of education the employees have and the amount of time they have been employed with the district. The contract also provides for employees to receive health insurance from the Trumbull County Insurance Consortium with the district paying 95 percent of the cost. The contract will run through June 30, 2008. It includes full- and part-time teachers, nurses, librarians, tutors, school psychologists and counselors. Wilson described negotiations with the Lakeview Teachers Association as "very amicable and very professional." The board of education approved the contract at its meeting Thursday.
