Andrew Irwin, 20, of Oak Street, appeared Friday morning before Municipal Court Judge Melissa Byers-Emmerling on a felony murder count. Irwin was declared indigent, and the judge appointed a lawyer for him. Authorities believe Irwin killed Emily Foreman, 21, about 4 p.m. Wednesday while she was staying at a home her mother owns at 916 Anderson Ave. in Liverpool Township. Foreman died after being taken to East Liverpool City Hospital. Court records did not indicate if Irwin entered a plea. A preliminary hearing was set for 1 p.m. Thursday. Her young daughter was being cared for by a relative at another location. Liverpool Township Police Chief Charles Burgess said Friday that he is continuing to interview people. Two knives are being tested by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation to determine if they were used in the slaying. What police said Authorities have said that they believe Irwin and Foreman were acquaintances who got into an argument. Authorities have not said what the argument was about. A small amount of suspected drugs was found in the home. The county coroner's office has not made a ruling on the death pending additional tests. Irwin was initially held on a charge of criminal trespass filed by his mother, who lives at the Oak Street address, according to authorities. Municipal court records show that Irwin was found guilty of two counts of petty theft this year. In 2004, he was found guilty of domestic violence. Also in 2004, he was found guilty of disorderly conduct with an intoxication specification after originally being charged with domestic violence. Municipal court records also show he had five traffic citations since 2000, including a charge of driving while under a license suspension.
