Rockets outscore YCS, 9-7; for 1st win



South Range's boys edged Campbell, 3-2.
MECCA -- Youngstown Christian's Kara Cooper had the game's first goal, but Maplewood went ahead in the second half and won its first game after two losses, 9-7, Thursday.
Erika Pinko had four goals, Michelle Sloan added three scores and Chelsea Wolfe had a pair of goals for Maplewood. Wolfe and Tori Spencer each had two assists, while Pinko, Lillie Engstrom and Kaeya Domes each had one for the Rockets.
Freshman Kristi Cooper had five goals for Youngstown Christian in the Eagles' opener. Kara Cooper and Alyssa Rojas had one goal apiece. Kara Cooper, a junior, had three assists while Rojas had her assist on Kristi Cooper's first goal.
Youngstown Christian's senior goalie, Amanda Vestal, made 25 saves.

VERNON TWP. -- Sarah Dunfee scored the only goal of the game on an assist from Shawna McNeely late in the first half.
The Braves (2-0) had 17 shots on goal. Goalkeeper Katy Dvorak had 10 saves.
Goalie Avrielle Merten had 11 saves for the Raiders (1-1).
Lakeview 3, Niles 0
CORTLAND -- Paige Poulis scored two goals to pace the Bulldogs (1-0-1). Nikki Bevilaqua added the other goal. Allie Nero, Bri Yocum and Bevilaqua each had an assists.
Hallie Ruggeri had 10 saves for the Bulldogs.
Gabby Belcastro had nine saves for the Red Dragons (1-1-1).
JVs: Lakeview 2-0.

NEWTON FALLS -- Maplewood and Newton Falls played to a 1-1 tie.
Ryan Bell scored a goal on an assist from Joe Knepper as the Rockets (1-1) took a 1-0 lead less than six minutes into the second half.
Josh Banyas scored the goal for the Tigers (1-1) with 15 minutes remaining. Bob Crislip had an assist.
Newton Falls had 17 shots on goal compared to 12 for Maplewood.
Kurt Ellis, the Tigers' keeper, had nine saves. Maplewood's Steve Ramsey had seven saves.

NORTH LIMA -- Mark Johnson scored two goals to pace the Raiders (1-1). Dustin Skidmore added the other goal. Andrew Edwards and Brenne Witmer each had an assist. Luke Yeagley had 11 saves.
Joseph Cappitte and Ryan Lopez scored a goal apiece for the Red Devils (0-1).
