Friday, August 25, 2006 Judge issues warrant after mom skips hearing YOUNGSTOWN — Municipal Judge Robert A. Douglas Jr. issued a warrant for the arrest of Kay M. Brown, 39, of South Lakeview Avenue, who failed to appear for a pretrial hearing scheduled for 10:15 a.m. Thursday. Brown was charged with violating parental responsibility and arraigned Aug. 3 in Youngstown Municipal Court. Her teenage son was involved in an assault and robbery that took place Aug. 2. Brown told police she did not know where her son was and that he was roaming the neighborhood. She also told police she can't keep track of him. Thief takes radios WARREN — City police are investigating the theft of two portable radios from Warren's central fire station at 111 South St. On Tuesday night, an unidentified male was observed by station employees as he climbed over the north-side door and onto one of the city's firetrucks. The suspect then removed two portable radios and fled north on Pine Avenue Northeast on a bicycle. Model railroad display WARREN — Scope Riverside Railroad Club will have an open house from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 220 W. Market St. The club will display its model railroad that includes three tracks with a scale-size firehouse, airport, pond and waterfalls. There is a $3 charge for adults, but children and those with disabilities will be admitted free. Saturation patrol NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police and New Castle Police conducted a saturation patrol Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the city. Police said they issued nine traffic citations and nine traffic warnings, six registration plates were seized, and three vehicles were towed. Officers also served one arrest warrant. The patrols are an ongoing effort by city and state police to provide more police protection. During a saturation patrol, both departments send out numerous officers for an intense patrol of a neighborhood or section of the city. Two people arrested on drug charges YOUNGSTOWN — Two people were arrested on drug charges and taken to Mahoning County jail after police executed a search warrant in the 100 block of New York Avenue. The warrant was executed about 6:25 p.m. Wednesday. Lebron Bunkley, 50, of Atkinson Avenue, was charged with drug abuse marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Brandy R. Carpenter, 23, of New York Avenue, was charged with drug abuse heroin and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. Fogging for mosquitoes LIBERTY — The township will have Alexander's Pest Control fog for mosquitoes Monday and Tuesday, from dusk to about 2 a.m. In the event of adverse weather conditions, fogging will take place on subsequent evenings. School supplies CAMPBELL — The Christian Study Center is sponsoring a "Back to School Giveaway" of school supplies from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Roosevelt Park. The program is open to pupils between 5 and 18, and each participant must have his own medical card. Registration is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the giveaway will run from 1 to 3 p.m. with supplies given to the first 800 children registered. Temporary closings for work on roads WARREN — Two roads will be closed starting Monday for work being done by the Trumbull County Engineer's Office. The roads are Hyde Shaffer Road, about a half-mile west of Park Avenue, in Bristol Township; and Chestnut Ridge Road, between Warner Road and state Route 7, in Hubbard Township. Hyde Shaffer will be closed until Wednesday for a culvert replacement. Chestnut Ridge will be closed until Tuesday for chip sealing.
