CAMPBELL vs. SPRINGFIELD
When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.Where: Springfield High School.Radio: WBBW-AM (1240)Scouting report: The Red Devils are coming off a 2-8 season as they join the Metro Athletic Conference. They have four starters returning on offense and defense. Returning to the backfield are quarterback Joe Faunda and tailbacks Brandon Sibley and Matthias Crosby. The Tigers finished 7-3 in the final season of the Inter-County League and have eight starters returning on offense and seven on defense. Nate Schuler takes over at quarterback after his brother Andrew graduated. Other returning backs on offense are John Zubick, Jarrod Lewis and Andy Richey. The Tigers will compete in the Inter-Tri County League First Tier division.
URSULINE vs. EAST LIVERPOOL
When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.Where: Potter Stadium, East Liverpool.Radio: None.Scouting report: The Irish finished 3-7 in 2005 but have 19 returning lettermen. Ursuline has six starters returning on offense and five on defense. The backfield will feature Ryan Curry, Nick DeMario, Maurice Jones and Matt Yarab. Third-year coach Dan Reardon expects the rushing attack to be a strength because of experience. East Liverpool begins play in the Metro Athletic Conference. The Potters were 3-7 in 2005.
LIBERTY vs. STRUTHERS
When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.Where: Struthers Stadium.Radio: None.Scouting report: Dallas Saunders takes over as coach of the Wildcats, who finished 1-9 in 2005. Struthers, of the Metro Athletic Conference, has five starters returning on offense and six on defense. In the backfield will be quarterback Aaron Young and Dennis Walton. On the other sideline will be Jeff Whittaker who is beginning his 12th season as head coach for the Leopards. Liberty went unbeaten in 2005 to win the Trumbull Athletic Conference then went 2-1 in the Division III playoffs. Liberty has eight lettermen returning and Whittaker says the Leopards' youth will be tested.
GIRARD vs. NILES
When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.Where: Bo Rein Stadium, Niles.Radio/TV: WKBN-AM 570; WYFX 17/62 (tape delay at 10:30 p.m.)Scouting report: Indians coach Bud McSuley begins his 10th season as head coach. Girard was 3-7 in 2005 and has 13 lettermen returning. Scooter Hargate, formerly of Ursuline, takes over at quarterback as the Indians of the Trumbull Athletic Conference have two returning starters on offense and three on defense. Phil Annarella believes his Red Dragons have the talent to contend for the Metro Athletic Conference crown. He has 14 lettermen returning from last year's 6-4 squad. The backfield will feature quarterback Walt Krezecowski and running backs Nate Ganyard, Jon Hites and Isaac Stanford.
