Mercer County will auction off jail items

MERCER, Pa. -- The county will auction off surplus kitchen and office equipment from the old jail next month.
Mercer County commissioners plan to hire Braham Professional Auction Services, Grove City, at today's meeting to auction the items at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at the old jail on South Diamond Street.
Braham will get expenses and 10 percent of auction proceeds.
Bill Boyle, the county's director of administrative services, said some of the items include metal tables, cell doors, stainless steel one-piece sinks/commode combinations from cells and other items that could not be moved to the new jail when it opened earlier this year.
The county code requires auction of equipment more than $200.
Commissioner Olivia Lazor said some of the equipment would be costly if the county had to dispose of it. She added the county has not held such an auction since the late 1990s.
