Chism-Pinkard returnsto 'Community' show
YOUNGSTOWN -- WFMJ Channel 21's "Community Connection" show returns Sunday at 6:30 a.m.
The show has been on hiatus since a Memorial Day automobile accident that seriously injured host Madonna Chism-Pinkard. Her father, Tolbert L. Chism, was killed in the accident.
Sunday's show, appropriately themed "Safe and Sound," will feature Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Joe Dragovich, discussing seat-belt safety and recent automobile accidents in the Valley where seat belt usage would have possibly saved a life.
Chism-Pinkard, who was not wearing a seat belt when she was injured, will discuss the accident that changed her life.
Also on the show will be local jazz-fusion band SounDoctrine. The group, finalists in the 2006 Capital Jazz Challenge will discuss their recent release, "Endurance."
Beaver Creek parkholds photo contest
NEGLEY -- The Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center is conducting a photo contest during the Fall Harvest at Beaver Creek event Oct. 7 and 8. Entries are $5 each; up to three entries are allowed.
All photos must be taken in Beaver Creek State Park and may include nature, historical elements or people enjoying the park.
The photos must be matted and no larger than 11" x14", including mat.
Photos must be submitted in person Sept. 17 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Trading Post in the Pioneer Village. For more information, call (330) 402-6906 or (330) 385-3091.
The park is also seeking crafters to display their handmade crafts at the Fall Harvest. The fee is $50.
Family fun includes'Mary Poppins' film
POLAND -- Family Fun Night at Yellow Creek Theatre begins at 6 p.m. Friday with live jazz. Jocko the Clown will entertain children.
Other activities for children will include, face painting, coloring, games and an opportunity to explore a firetruck.
The Academy Award winning classic "Mary Poppins" will be screened outdoors at 8:30 p.m.
Yellow Creek Theatre is behind the Poland Library. The movie and all activities are free. Lawn chairs are welcome.
