WARREN -- A Youngstown man accused of giving drugs to a 16-year-old Girard girl who later died posted a higher $350,000 bond after his arraignment Wednesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
Timothy Wyland, 38, of Superior Street, had been free on $250,000 bond since July 29, but Judge John M. Stuard increased it after considering arguments from Chuck Morrow, assistant Trumbull County prosecutor, and Wyland's attorney, J.P. Morgan of Warren.
Morrow said the lower bond had been set when Wyland was facing only a couple of drug charges in Girard Municipal Court. Since then, a county grand jury indicted him on involuntary manslaughter and other charges, Morrow said, so the bond should be increased.
Morrow added that Wyland appeared to be a flight risk because he had been captured in Deerfield Beach, Fla., in March. The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested him there after a 36-hour dragnet. Morrow added that Wyland has been living at various addresses and might be difficult to locate.
Morgan said Wyland was actually in Florida for a dental appointment that he made weeks before his arrest and that he goes to Florida because he has family there. Morgan added that Wyland would have difficulty leaving the area, considering the civil suit filed against Wyland that has frozen his assets. The civil suit was filed by the family of the 16-year-old girl.
Judge Stuard then reviewed Wyland's criminal history before deciding on a compromise between Morrow's $500,000 bond request and Morgan's request for $250,000.
Wyland was indicted on seven charges related to March 24, when he is accused of giving drugs to Cortney L. Rushwin and a 17-year-old girl in a Liberty Township motel room. Rushwin died the next day.
Wyland, who pleaded innocent, will next appear for a hearing Sept. 5 before Judge Andrew Logan.

Also Wednesday, bond was set at $100,000 for Adam A. Carson, 24, of Newton Falls, accused of robbing First Place Bank in the Elm Road Plaza in Warren on July 7. He remained jailed as of late Wednesday afternoon.
Carson, son of former Trumbull County Administrator Tony Carson Jr., had been held without bond in Trumbull County Jail since his arrest July 11. Adam Carson pleaded innocent to a single count of robbery.
His attorney, public defender Anthony Consoldane, asked Judge Stuard for bond of $10,000 or an ankle bracelet to monitor movements so Carson could start school at Kent State University Trumbull Campus on Monday.
Consoldane said Carson is a "straight-A" student who would begin his sophomore year. "It would be a shame for him to miss the start of school," Consoldane said.
"It would be a shame if he would rob another bank," said Ken Bailey, another assistant Trumbull County prosecutor.
