School board accepts donations of piano, $450 in change

McDONALD -- The McDonald Board of Education accepted a donation of a $6,000 Yamaha upright piano for the school district's music and choral program from Jerry Gamerstfelder, a retired district English teacher.
Gamertsfelder donated the piano in memory of his mother, Vivian Gamertsfelder, who taught at McDonald High School from 1940 to 1948 and returned later to teach Latin and English from 1957 to 1972.
Board member Robert Jones commented on Gamertsfelder's gift, "All the years he gave as a teacher and he's still giving."
Superintendent Michael Wasser also told the board at its Monday meeting that he found a jar of change sitting on his desk with a note inside to use the money for this year's golf team.
Wasser and his wife counted and wrapped the change, which came to $450, and gave the funds to the team coach, Frank Strang. The money will be used to buy golf shirts and other equipment for the team.
The board also rehired Dr. David Delliquadri as school physician at a rate of $1 per year. He has been school physician since 1987.
The elementary and high school fee schedule was adopted for the 2006-07 school year. The board established a maximum pupil/course fee of $60 per family. Additional charges for magazines, newspapers, etc. used in various subjects will be assessed to pupils at cost.
