Canfield boys open with 3-1 victory

BELOIT -- Tim Hutchinson, Kyle Reese and Jason Murdoch scored goals as Canfield High opened its season with a 3-1 win over West Branch in a boys soccer game Monday night.
Eric Clayton and John Congelio combined for seven saves for Canfield.
Caleb Kapron scored the goal for West Branch.
Maplewood 8, Grand Valley 3
CORTLAND -- Ryan Bell scored three goals and Eric Hartman added a pair as Maplewood rolled to its season-opening victory.
Brent Bolinger, Bradley Ronyak and Chuck Smith all added single goals for the Rockets.
Warren Harding 5, Warren JFK 2
WARREN -- Josh Phillips, Brandon Jordan-McElroy, Dmitri Fournaris, Mike Safos and Josh Gray scored solo goals for Harding (1-0).
Ed Hazboun had two scoring kicks for the Eagles (0-1).
The game was tied 1-1 at the break.
Mooney 2, Howland 2
STRUTHERS -- Robbie Fox and Scotty Blasko scored first-half goals for the Cardinals in the opener for each team.
Aleko Frangopoulos had both assists.
