BROOKFIELD SCHOOLS
The Brookfield Local Board of Education met recently and:
Voted to bring back teacher Mary Madeline, who had been laid off earlier this summer. Her return was because of the retirement of Nancy Lukasko, who had worked in the district's elementary schools for more than 30 years.
Hired Philip Rogers on a one-year contract as a science teacher at Brookfield High School. Rogers is a graduate of Brookfield and Youngstown State University.
Voted to pay over $45,000 in severance pay to Nancy Lukasko, Russ Hake and Judith Akins, each retiring during the summer. The three had a combined 141 unused sick days.
Entered into an agreement with the Occupational Work Experience program to have the football stadium cleaned after every home football game. The OWE students will use the cleaning as a work project for class and will charge the district $50 per cleaning.
Agreed to the $500 rental fee for Harding Park in Hubbard, where Brookfield tennis players will practice and play matches during August and September.
