Girl, 6, listed in stable condition after shooting at Shehy St. home

YOUNGSTOWN — A 6-year-old girl shot while asleep in her Shehy Street home was listed in stable condition Sunday night. Diabolique Smith was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center after being shot in her left thigh about 1 a.m. Saturday. Nakeisha Haskins, the girl's mother, told police the 6-year-old was asleep on the couch in their living room when several gunshots were fired into the South Side home in the 1300 block of Shehy. Fish tank shattered The girl also was cut by broken glass in several places when a fish tank in the living room was shattered by a bullet, police said. Also in the home at the time was the mother and her three other children, ranging in age from 7 months to 3 years, as well as a friend of the mother's, according to a police report. None was injured. Police say they found 15 to 20 bullet holes on the exterior area of the home, several others in the living room, and in two vehicles parked in the home's yard. The girl's mother told police that she didn't know anyone who would want to hurt her.
