Youngstown all-stars hold on for 11-6 victory



Sunday, August 20, 2006 WILSON, N.C. — The Youngstown 14-year-old all-star team built a 11-2 lead through six innings, then held off a late rally by Shelton, Conn., to post an 11-6 victory Saturday in the Babe Ruth World Series. Jacob Thomas was the winning pitcher for Youngstown in the American Division's Round Robin tournament. Youngstown took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Kyle Vaclav walked, stole second and scored on an error. Anthony Rashilla hit a two-run home run in the three-run sixth inning for Youngstown, while Joe Auluzia hit a triple for Youngstown in the three-run fifth. He also hit a single. Raul Pizarro, Bo Slemons and Shane Parks each singled as Youngstown scored three runs in the third inning. Vaclav added a pair of singles, while Nicholas Testani and Eric Christensen each tripled. Youngstown played East North Carolina State at 8 p.m., but the game was not completed in time for this edition. The Youngstown 15-year-olds' Babe Ruth World Series game against South Colonie, N.Y., was postponed Saturday with the score tied 2-2 in the fourth inning. It was to resume this morning at 9 a.m. Youngstown will also play the Pacific Northwest champion Kelso, Wash., at 4 p.m.
