Shaffers honored at reception on 50th anniversary

Sunday, August 20, 2006 AUSTINTOWN — A surprise dinner reception honoring Mr. and Mrs. Herb Shaffer, Woodland Trace, on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary was held Aug. 19 at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, Youngstown, where they are members. Hosts for the event were the Shaffers' daughters, Debbie Fleming and Cheryl Conti, both of Austintown, and Cathy D'Andrea of Niles. Their son, Herb Shaffer Jr., lives in Interlachen, Fla., and the family also includes six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The couple were married Aug. 23, 1956, at Chapel in the Garden in Angola, Ind. Mrs. Shaffer, the former Elaine Grimm is a homemaker and was employed as a secretary at WKBN prior to her marriage. She is a member of AARP and the church women's circle. Mr. Shaffer served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and retired in 1995 from General Motors at Lordstown, where he was employed on the assembly line. He is a member of the Saxon Club, the Saxon Club Bowling League and the church bowling league.
