Cardiac chief PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center appointed Dr. Kenton Zehr as chief of its cardiac surgery division and professor of surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Before coming to UPMC, Zehr was a cardiovascular surgeon at the Mayo Clinic and an associate professor at the Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minn. Cancer screenings YOUNGSTOWN — The MammoVan, a mobile mammography unit, will offer breast cancer screenings to Mahoning Valley women from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at the YWCA, 25 W. Women's health event LIBERTY — The Forum Health annual Women's Health Event features motivational speaker and humorist Karen Vadino who takes humorous aim at stress with her presentation, "All Stressed Out and No One to Choke." Smoking cessation ALLIANCE — Starting Thursday , Alliance Community Hospital will begin "Fresh Start,"a free four-week smoking cessation program. Classes are every Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. in conference Room 1-B on the first floor of the hospital. The program is facilitated by Certified Respiratory Therapist Bobbie Retterer and Registered Respiratory Therapist John Pinatiello. CPR course GREENVILLE, Pa. — UPMC Horizon will have a Heartsaver CPR course from 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 29 and a Heartsaver First Aid course from 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 31. Both classes will be held in Assembly Room A at the Greenville campus. The CPR course focuses on adult, child and infant CPR with the use of an automated external defibrillator in an adult and child; and foreign body airway management in adults, infants and children. The class, which costs $25, is for nonmedical personnel who are required to know CPR skills for the job. The first aid course is intended for non-medical personnel required to be first responders in their workplaces. Cost of the first aid course is $20. Provider CPR class GREENVILLE, Pa. — UPMC Horizon will host a new health care provider cardiopulmonary resuscitation class from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 6 in Assembly Room D and E at the Greenville campus. The class will focus on adult CPR by one or two rescuers, use of an automated external defibrillator, foreign-body airway obstruction management, pediatric basic life support and special resuscitation situations. The class will also require review of the Health Care Provider textbook, a written test and skills demonstration. The fee is $30 per person and includes the textbook, which will be mailed upon receipt of completed registration form and fee.
