Outlook: Although many preseason prognosticators — particularly on the Internet — have already touted Mooney as a state title contender, Fecko downplays such talk. "I think a lot of people think that we're some type of invincible team and we're far from it at this point," he said. "We have to make huge strides between now and the opening game." Dan McCarthy, the younger brother of Kyle (now at Notre Dame), takes over at quarterback, while transfer RB/LB Brandon Beachum should see plenty of action, especially on defense. Transfer wideout Nick Pederzolli (a track standout from St. Thomas Aquinas) won't start at the beginning of the season, but may see time later on.
