Fatal Fairfield crash
FAIRFIELD -- Arthur K. Bell, 67, of Fairfield School Road, Columbiana, was killed when his car went off Camelot Drive in Fairfield Township about 7:06 p.m. Wednesday and flipped. The Lisbon Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said Bell was driving north. The patrol said Bell went off the right side of the road and hit a large rock and overturned. The patrol said he was not wearing a seat belt.
College cost forum
U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan and other Democratic members of the U.S. House Education and Workforce Committee are holding a national online e-forum on college affordability. During the next two weeks, students, parents and others are asked to submit testimony on their experiences financing a college education to the U.S. House at this e-mail address: collegeforall@mail.house.gov, said Ryan, of Niles, D-17th, The e-forum is a chance for people to suggest ways to improve college access and affordability, Ryan said.
Salem school levy
SALEM -- The Salem Ministerial Association has endorsed the Salem school levy in what the association says is an unprecedented move. The SMA said the levy is critical for Salem's future.
The district is asking for a 4.3-mill levy next Tuesday that would bring in $1.3 million a year for five years. The issue was defeated last November. The SMA will have a levy forum at 7 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church, 1151 E. 6th St. School officials will answer questions.
Sewer smell in school
HUBBARD -- A mysterious, unpleasant odor in Hubbard High School that sent students home for one day turned out to be harmless sewer vapor, school officials said. Superintendent Richard Buchenic said the odor was detected near the library media center Wednesday just before afternoon dismissal. School was closed Thursday while officials determined what the odor was. School is back in session today.
Fire board of appeals
BOARDMAN -- Township trustees are seeking letters of interest from residents who want to serve on the fire board of appeals. A letter of interest is to be submitted to the Boardman Fire Prevention Office, 126 Boardman-Poland Road, Attn: Vickie Davis, by May 4. Appointments will be made at trustees' May 8 meeting. Members must be knowledgeable about hazards pertaining to fire, explosions and other hazardous conditions and may not be township employees.
Aqua Ohio installment
HILLSVILLE, Pa. -- Officials of Aqua Ohio were to present a $41,000 check to Mahoning Township supervisors today as the final installment of the company's share of a project to bring water service to the Edinburg area.
The $916,000 project will serve 105 customers. Aqua contributed $416,000, and the rest came from a Community Development Block Grant awarded to the township. Today's presentation was to be at the Hillsville Senior Citizen Center.
Salvation Armysummer camp
NEWTON FALLS -- The North East Ohio Salvation Army summer camp is now accepting applications. The resident camp will be in session July 26-31 at its location near Carrollton. Activities include swimming, boating, crafts, nature, music and hiking. There also is a religious aspect in some programs. The camp is free.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Mayor Jay Williams and Dave Trabert, WYTV Channel 33's general manager, will be the guest speakers at the Youngstown Arts & amp; Entertainment Association's meeting May 10 at the Ohio One Building, 25 E. Boardman St. Refreshments are provided at 5:30 p.m.; the meeting begins at 6 p.m. The public is invited.
