SOFTBALL
Grove City 15, Thiel 7 -- Grove City College earned its first Presidents' Athletic Conference victory. The second game was postponed due to rain. Grove City (9-12-1, 1-5 PAC) trailed 4-0 after the top of the first but quickly broke through as junior center fielder Paula Rice led off with a home run, her first of the season. Rice also doubled and scored three runs as part of a 5-for-5 effort. The Wolverines then pulled to within 4-3 in the third inning as sophomore catcher Abby Greiner cracked a two-run double. Grove City took the lead for good in the fifth with an eight-run outburst. A double by senior first baseman Jes Flick helped ignite the rally. Grove City pounded out seven hits during the inning. After Thiel closed Grove City's lead to 12-7 in the top of the sixth, Grove City put the game away with a three-run bottom of the sixth. Following singles by freshman pitcher Julia Coulombe and junior third baseman Lauren Carlson (Meadville), sophomore Kristen Hughes (Grove City) belted a double. Hughes later scored on a fielder's choice from freshman shortstop Amy Fisher.
Mount Union 8-4, Case Western Reserve 0-1 -- Lindsey Royer (14-4) pitched a complete-game one-hitter in the opener for the Raiders (28-8). In the nightcap, Ashley Ault (10-1) went the route on a three-hit effort. Case is 16-22-1.
