Ursuline splits in St. Ursula tourney

The Irish lost to Columbus DeSales 2-1, but beat Magnificat 7-5.
TOLEDO -- The Ursuline High softball team split a pair of games Saturday in the Toledo St. Ursula Invitational at Monsignor Jerome Schmidt CYO Complex.
In the first game, the Irish lost, 2-1, to Columbus DeSales, which scored twice in the fourth inning. Both teams had four hits.
In a 7-5 victory over Magnificat, Ursuline scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and three in the sixth to prevail.
Ashley Koval (7-5), who was the losing pitcher in the first game, came on in relief in the fifth inning to pick up the win.
Ashley Siembieda hit two triples and a single to drive in four runs. She scored twice.
Vannessa Dickson and Mary Hendricks each hit two singles and scored once.
The Irish (12-8) finished 2-1 in the 12-team weekend tournament.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Kaitlyn Durina tripled in a run while Nicole Smaldino's two hits included a double for the Falcons (6-9).
Kara Warren (6-8) took the mound loss and contributed two singles.
The Falcons went 4-1 on their South Carolina trip to earn a runner-up trophy.
West Branch 7-8, Southeast 4-7
RAVENNA -- Bri Benedict and Becky Rinyo both went 3-for-5 with two RBIs apiece and Melissa Solomon tripled for West Branch.
Kelsey Price, Holly Mellinger, Caitlyn King and Brittany Snyder added a single apiece for the Warriors.
Lyndsey Todor (4-11) allowed seven hits and struck out five.
Jen Gahagan and Megan Ubin each had two hits for Southeast, while Katelin Dillon, Chrissy Pohls, Kelsey Hill and Amanda Penzera had singles for the Pirates.
In the second game, Allison Edie scored on an error in the top of the eighth inning in a game which produced 27 hits.
Edie and Rinyo had three hits apiece while Solomon had a pair for West Branch (5-11).
Megan Wain had four hits and Ali Austin had three doubles for Southeast (4-9).
