CAMPUS NOTES \ In the spotlight

WESTMINSTER COLLEGE
Christine Cole, daughter of Larry and Sharon Cole of New Castle, and Colby King, son of William and Belinda King of Slippery Rock, are among 32 students recently inducted into Mortar Board, an honor society that recognizes seniors with leadership, scholarship and service skills. The recipients will be recognized April 29 at the Westminster College Spring Honors Convocation. Cole, a junior Spanish and psychology major, is a graduate of Neshannock High School. King, a senior political science and individual interdisciplinary major, is a graduate of Slippery Rock Area High School.
UNIVERSITY OF AKRON
Seniors Marc Carden of Canfield, Megan Gray of Warren and Rachel Salzer of Ravenna were among the top students in the College of Business Administration honored recently as the college held its annual Beta Gamma Sigma initiation and banquet. Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a business student can receive in an undergraduate or master's degree program at a school accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The mission of Beta Gamma Sigma is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business, and personal and professional excellence in the practice of business.
SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY
The senior computer programming team captured first place in the recent Pennsylvania Computer and Information Science Educators competition, beating more than 20 other teams for the state title. The university's computer science department is one of only eight accredited programs in the state. In the competition, teams were given four hours to solve nine programming problems. Members of the senior team are Andrew Beers of New Castle, Corey Callihan of Lucinda and Joshua Petry of Zelienople. The sophomore team took 13th place. Members are Chris Adams of New Castle, Chris Chapman of Allison Park and Brian Turner of Pittsburgh.
