WARREN -- What a difference a year made in the Warren Harding-Cleveland Glenville rivalry!
Last year, Glenville's junior quarterback Arbell Nelson threw a critical interception in the waning seconds that enabled the Raiders to escape with a 30-26 victory.
Saturday night at Mollenkopf Stadium, Nelson engineered three first-half scoring drives as Glenville opened a 21-0 halftime lead before running away from Harding, 34-0.
Fourth loss
The loss was Harding's fourth straight on the season after an opening win against Cleveland JFK.
Nelson completed 14 of 19 passes for 201 yards and one touchdown pass while tailback Bruce Frieson rushed for 198 yards on 26 carries. Glenville (5-0) rolled up 402 yards of offense and 17 first downs.
The Tarblooders are ranked first in the state in Division I.
Harding (1-4), on the other hand, struggled to find any offense against a quick and aggressive Glenville defense.
The lone bright spot for Harding was junior tailback Dan Herron, who accounted for 105 of Harding's 157 total offense.
Herron rushed for 61 yards on 10 carries and caught six passes for 44 yards.
Harding quarterback Sidney Glover and Avery Qualls combined to complete 10 of 16 passes for 67 yards, but each threw an interception.
In the opening two periods, Nelson scored twice on a pair of 1-yard runs and connected on seven of eight passes for 104 yards.
The senior hit on passes of 19 and 22 yards to Raymond Small on the Tarblooders' first scoring drive before Frieson scored from 5 yards out.
Glenville got on the board in the second period following a great goal line stand by the Raiders.
Bryant Milligan grabbed his second interception of the contest when Qualls was hit attempting to pass from his own end zone. Milligan returned the pick to the 2-yard line and, two plays later, Nelson scored on a quarterback sneak.
