Benefit car cruise set for boy with disorder

Saturday, September 17, 2005

CANFIELD -- The seventh annual Joshua Walker Car and Motorcycle Cruise will be 2 to 7 p.m. next Sunday at Emmanuel Community Church, 6512 Kirk Road.
Organizer Carrie Balciar said Joshua is an 8-year-old Austintown resident who suffers from metachromatic leukadystrophy, or MLD, a rare genetic disorder that attacks the brain.
She said there is no cure for MLD and most victims die before age 12. Balciar said Joshua uses a wheelchair and must be fed through a feeding tube.
"Dukes of Hazzard" vehicles, the General Lee and Roscoe's police car, will be on display. Exhibitors and guests can have their pictures taken with the cars and register to win a ride in the General Lee.
Exhibitors and spectators can register for drawings and an auction of prizes such as televisions, video game systems and stereos.
There will also be live entertainment and food. Exhibitors can receive dash plaques, pins and trophies.
