Mineral Ridge turns back Niles

The Rams were extended by the Dragons in the opening game.
MINERAL RIDGE -- Courtney Skiba, Alex Ladd and Abbey Kiger combined for 32 serving points Monday as the Mineral Ridge High volleyball team battled past Niles in three games.
The Rams had to go overtime to win the opener 29-27, but came back with wins of 25-19 and 25-15 to improve to 3-2.
Skiba led the way with 12 points while Ladd added 10 and 19 assists, and Kiger had 10 points and eight kills. Sara Garland added 20 digs.
Karla Durig led Niles with 13 points.
Chaney 25-25-25, Ursuline 12-13-11
YOUNGSTOWN -- Antaya James made nine points, six kills and three digs for the Cowgirls (4-1, 3-0 Steel Valley Conference).
Chelsea Paggiano scored with four aces while Jacquela Teamor made seven assists.
For Ursuline (1-5), Janie Williams had two aces and Cynthia Akpadock had two kills.
Yo. Christian 25-25-25, Wilson 16-10-18
YOUNGSTOWN -- Kara Pecchia had 10 serving points while Rachael Coristan added six spikes as Youngstown Christian defeated Wilson.
It was the first win after two losses for Youngstown Christian.
Boardman 25-25-23-25,Springfield 16-17-25-11
BOARDMAN -- April Melquist made 12 kills, 10 blocks and four digs for the Spartans (8-2).
Ali Sfara made eight kills and three digs while Katie Spatara had 15 assists.
Springfield is 4-4

POLAND -- Doni Muransky collected seven blocks, seven digs and 23 kills for the Bulldogs (2-2).
Ashley Conger added eight digs, 12 points, 12 kills and 22 assists while Olivia Hartman dug nine times.
For the Raiders (4-4), Annie Semko came up with six aces, eight kills and seven blocks. Tara Chizmar had 14 kills and six blocks.
Girard 25-25-22-25,Lakeview 19-19-25-18
CORTLAND -- Elise Roscoe made 13 kills and 12 digs for the Indians, who are ranked 11th in this week's state poll of Division III teams.
Hillary Patterson scored nine points with three aces while Aysha Nichols made 42 assists for Girard (7-1, 4-0 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
Lauren McCumber made 14 kills for the Bulldogs, the No. 9 team in the Div. II poll.
Michelle Antonelli made 31 assists and 16 points while Emily Malmisur had 11 kills for Lakeview (6-1, 3-1).
LaBrae 25-25-26, Brookfield 12-18-24
BROOKFIELD -- Maddie D'Orio made 16 kills, Stepfanie Higgins made 24 points and seven digs, and Lindsey Higgins made 24 assists and seven digs for the Vikings (4-3, 3-1 TAC).
For Brookfield (3-5, 1-3), Andrea Gladis made nine kills, 10 digs and six blocks. Morgan Bonekovic compiled 11 kills, four points and 10 digs while Taralee Williams had eight points, 26 assists and four digs.
Hubbard 25-25-25, Newton Falls 6-13-7
HUBBARD -- Maggie Bogdon led the way with eight kills for the Eagles (3-1, 3-1 TAC).
Callie Oyler and Brittany Lange evenly split 12 kills while Carrie Gasser had 22 assists.
For the Tigers (0-5, 0-5), Kirsten Berry had two kills and two blocks while Blaine Chapman had four assists.
JVs: Hubbard, 25-12, 25-6.
Liberty 25-25-25, Champion 16-16-17
WARREN -- Chelsea O'Donnell scored 18 points and added 10 kills to lead Liberty.
Emily Hall had four aces for the Leopards, while Champion was led by Amber Ackerman with 11 points and 12 digs.
Lordstown 25-25-25,Southington 8-13-12
LORDSTOWN -- Megan Gibson killed eight times and Whitney Blank was in with 15 points for Lordstown. Ashley Kellar recorded five aces.
For the Wildcats, Danielle Waggoner had five kills.
