3 Doors Down will open new arena

Tuesday, September 13, 2005

The band's latest album debuted at No. 1 this summer.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The first rock concert at the Youngstown Convocation Center will actually be the first event at the new arena.
3 Doors Down, with guests Shinedown and Alter Bridge, will play the arena at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 29. Tony Bennett will play the arena on the following night.
Mississippi-based 3 Doors Down is a straight-up rock 'n' roll band that combines catchy hard rock with grungy street metal.
The band's debut release, "The Better Life," on Republic/Universal Records, made them rock stars overnight. Their huge hit "Kryptonite" put them on the map, but the album spawned several other rock radio favorites including "Loser," "Better Life" and "Be Like That."
Then came "Away From the Sun," released in 2002 and once again the band sold millions of albums, and climbed to the top of the charts with the smash singles, "When I'm Gone" and "Here Without You."
The band's latest album, "Seventeen Days," was released in July and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and went platinum in its first week of release. Its top 10 single, "Let Me Go," has received heavy radio play.
"We are thrilled to have 3 Doors Down as our first show and a part of our grand opening series" said Jeff Kossow, executive director of the Youngstown Convocation Center. "The people of this community deserve this kind of entertainment, and we look forward to providing it for them."
Melodic hard rockers Shinedown and Alter Bridge will join in the grand opening festivities.
Shinedown released its debut album, "Leave a Whisper," in 2003 and are ready to release its next album, "Us and Them," next month.
Alter Bridge's debut release on Wind Up Records, "One Day Remains," was released last August and includes the hit single, "Open Your Eyes."
