CROSS COUNTRY Boardman boys, Mooney girls win Rotary titles



EAST PALESTINE -- The Boardman High boys team scored 30 points and the Cardinal Mooney girls team 39 to capture titles Saturday in the Rotary Invitational cross country meet at East Palestine City Park.
Jake Lape led the Spartans to the victory as he won the 5K run in 16 minutes, 48 seconds. Colin Durina finished second (16:56) as Mooney placed second with 72 points.
Lauren Agnew of Boardman took first place in the girls race (20:53), but Mooney put three runners in the top 10: Christina Oles (21:05) finished second, Lauren Finnerty (21:31) was eighth and Maggie Finnerty (22:26) was 10th.
Boardman, last year's girls champion, was second with 62 points. The Spartans' Lauren Blase (22:07) placed seventh and Katie Stoll (22:24) was ninth.
Poland boys win title
CHAMPION -- Jimmy Ramson took second place in 17 minutes, one second as Poland High won the Ray Sweeney Invitational team title with 30 points at Champion High School.
The Bulldogs replaced last year's champion Lakeview, which finished third with 81 points.
Poland had five runners finish in the top 11 spots in the 5K race. Eric Kennedy (17:25) was third, Jay Brogan (18:10) was eighth, Tim Sutcliffe (18:13) was ninth and Sam Wallace (18:20) was 11th.
Graham Fishell of Chagrin Falls won the run (16:56).
Chagrin Falls dominated the girls race as it won with 23 points. Poland came in second with 58 and last year's champ, Lakeview, was third with 95.
Karen Corson (19:49) and Katie Stancik (20:21) of Chagrin Falls took first and second place, respectively.
Poland's Lauren Fithian (20:53) was third and Lakeview's Nicole Taddei (21:01) was fourth.
