NEW YORK -- Randy Johnson allowed only a soft single in seven innings and Jason Giambi homered off Tim Wakefield to give New York the victory. Wakefield (15-11) struck out a career-high 12 and pitched a three-hitter in his third complete game this season. Boston's only hit off Johnson (14-8) was by Kevin Youkilis, who led off the fourth inning by lofting a 1-2 pitch into short left-center. Mariano Rivera struck out John Olerud with runners at the corners for his 37th save in 41 chances.
Angels 6, White Sox 1
CHICAGO -- John Lackey (12-5) pitched seven shutout innings, and Los Angeles hit three first-inning homers to complete a three-game sweep. Chone Figgins led off the game with a homer, and Garret Anderson and Darin Erstad added solo shots in the first off Orlando Hernandez (9-8). Figgins had a sacrifice fly in the second and stole his 50th base in the eighth. Vladimir Guerrero hit his 29th homer in the eighth.
Rangers 7, Athletics 4
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Mark Teixeira hit a tie-breaking, three-run homer that made him the major league RBI leader. Teixeira's career-best 39th homer, his fifth in seven games, gave Texas a 5-2 lead in the fifth inning. It increased the All-Star first baseman's RBI total to 125, two more than Boston's David Ortiz. Alfonso Soriano and Mark DeRosa also homered for the Rangers, who lead the major leagues with 241. Kenny Rogers (13-7) threw a season-high 121 pitches over six innings, and John Wasdin pitched three innings for his fourth save.
Devil Rays 6, Blue Jays 5, 11 innings
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Travis Lee hit a tying infield single with two outs in the ninth, then drove in the winning run on an 11th-inning grounder to help Tampa Bay avoid a three-game sweep. Joey Gathright had a leadoff single against Scott Schoeneweis (3-4) in the 11th. Gathright went to second on Aubrey Huff's grounder before stealing third. Lee then hit a grounder to first, but the speedy Gathright beat Shea Hillenbrand's throw to the plate.
Tigers 14, Royals 4
DETROIT -- Placido Polanco had four hits, including a home run, to power an 18-hit effort. Polanco scored four runs and drove in two for Detroit. Brandon Inge and Chris Shelton also homered for the Tigers, who broke open a tie game with four runs in the fifth.
Orioles 6, Mariners 3
SEATTLE -- Bruce Chen overcame a shaky start and Baltimore roughed up Seattle rookie Felix Hernandez. The 19-year-old Hernandez, who had a 1.59 ERA through his first seven starts, gave up five runs in the second inning. Bernie Castro and Melvin Mora each drove in two. Hernandez (3-3) lasted seven innings, allowing six runs and six hits. He walked three and struck out five.

Braves 9, Nationals 7
WASHINGTON -- Chipper Jones and Andruw Jones hit consecutive homers off closer Chad Cordero with two outs in the ninth inning. Chipper Jones' two-run shot off Cordero (2-4) erased a 7-6 deficit for Atlanta -- which led 6-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth before Washington scored five times. Andruw Jones followed with his second homer of the game and 49th of the season. He's homered in three straight games to break the franchise record of 47 homers shared by Hall of Famer members Hank Aaron (1971) and Eddie Mathews (1953).
Brewers 4, Astros 2
MILWAUKEE -- Rickie Weeks hit a two-run homer and Rick Helling pitched seven strong innings to lead Milwaukee. Helling (2-0) was making his fourth start of the season and got his first win as a starter. He gave up five hits and had a season-high six strikeouts. Derrick Turnbow pitched the ninth for his 31st save in 34 chances.
Phillies 11, Marlins 1
PHILADELHPIA -- Pat Burrell hit a three-run homer and had four RBIs and Jon Lieber pitched seven innings. Kenny Lofton added a two-run triple and drove in three runs, and Jimmy Rollins scored twice and had three hits to extend his hitting streak to 17 games for the Phillies. Lieber (14-12) allowed four hits. The Phillies scored six times in the third, chasing Ismael Valdez (2-2).
Dodgers 7, Padres 3
LOS ANGELES -- Brad Penny overcame a shaky start and Jose Cruz Jr. and Dioner Navarro hit back-to-back homers. Penny (7-9) gave up three runs on four hits and a walk in the first before settling down. He blanked the Padres on one hit after that, retiring his last 11 batters before being relieved by Giovanni Carrara to begin the seventh.
Mets 7, Cardinals 2
ST. LOUIS -- Pedro Martinez stopped his own two-game skid as well as New York's six-game losing streak, pitching eight innings. Carlos Beltran homered and Mike Jacobs doubled twice with an RBI to help the Mets beat the Cardinals for the first time in 12 games on the road and avoid a four-game sweep. Victor Diaz hit a three-run homer in the ninth.
Cubs 3, Giants 2
SAN FRANCISCO -- Neifi Perez hit a tie-breaking double in the eighth inning. Jerry Hairston hit a two-out double against LaTroy Hawkins (2-6) before Perez lined an RBI double to left for the go-ahead run. Matt Murton homered and Todd Walker had an RBI triple in the second for the Cubs.
Rockies 7, Diamondbacks 2
DENVER -- Aaron Cook pitched his third career complete game to win his fifth straight decision and Matt Holliday keyed a six-run fourth inning with a three-run double as Colorado avoided a three-game sweep.
