Task force stops 686 vehicles at checkpoint



CANFIELD -- The Mahoning County OVI (Operating Vehicle Impaired) Task Force had a checkpoint to look for people who were driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The checkpoint was on U.S. Route 224 from 11 p.m. Friday until 3 a.m. Saturday. Canfield, Austintown, Beaver, Goshen, the Mahoning County sheriff's office, New Middletown, Poland Township and Springfield police participated. The checkpoint stopped 686 vehicles. Of those, 32 vehicles were diverted. There were no under-21 arrests, but three drivers over 21 were arrested for driving impaired. There were 29 seat-belt citations, three vehicles seized and four misdemeanor arrests.
