South Side man dies of injuries from shooting

YOUNGSTOWN -- A South Side man who was shot twice by an elderly man died of his injuries Sunday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Benjamin Brooks, 44, of East Philadelphia Avenue, was taken to the hospital Friday after Walter Swita, 83, shot him after Brooks attacked Swita at his residence at 3003 South Ave., a police report says. According to the report, Swita was entering his home around 10:30 p.m. Friday when Brooks grabbed him from behind. As he fell, Swita shot Brooks once in the head and once in the chest, the report said.
