Rocksolid Granit surface has counters covered

WASHINGTON POST
Let's see: Science has brought us decking made from recycled plastic and laminate flooring that mimics wood. Now comes Rocksolid Granit, an engineered stone surface that looks enough like real granite to warrant a second glance.
Its chief virtue may be that it can be custom cut and laid directly over counters and backsplashes without removing the old ones. Made of granite, stone chips and polymer resin, the sealed surface comes in 19 colors; a 10-year limited warranty covers heat, stain and scratch damage, according to Granite Transformations, the U.S. franchise firm that began selling it in 2001 (www.granitetransformations.com/home.html).
It's not just for kitchens, says Brad Wintermute, owner of the Dulles, Va., franchise ([571] 323-2499). It works for tub and shower surrounds, bathroom vanities, fireplaces and floors, he says.
Wintermute won't give estimates by the square foot, only by the job. A condo-size kitchen runs about $2,000 to $2,500, he says; a modest home kitchen averages about $3,700. Installation takes one to two days.
