YOUNGSTOWN -- A 76-year-old retired Liberty Road woman may have been swindled out of $2,401 in a sweepstakes scam, in which a company told her she'd have to send money in order to claim a $405,000 prize she had won.
She told police Friday that she wired the money through Western Union in installments of $1,068 and $1,333 and never received the prize.
On a police report, which calls the matter a theft, police said they doubt she will receive any money.
They also noted the victim sent in her driver's license information, making her assets accessible. Police advised the victim to change all accounts and get a new driver's license.
