A list of activities scheduled for November at Mill Creek MetroParks.
Wednesday: 9 a.m., health and wellness walk. Meet at the Golf Course overflow parking lot on West Golf Drive. Easy rating, 1 or 3 miles.
Friday/Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Shop in the Garden Holiday Open House. An opportunity to buy unique gifts from an expanded line of jewelry and accessories. The park now carries Mary Frances handbags. Saturday: 2 to 4 p.m., the final kayak trip of the year. This excursion is subject to certain weather conditions and is not for the first-time kayaker. Single and tandem kayaks are available. Participants must be 18 and will be required to complete a waiver. Reservations and payment must be made 24 hours before the program. Saturday: 10 a.m., editor Susan Zakin attempts to reveal how modern artistic writers present nature and the environment in the book "Naked: Writers Uncover the Way We Live on Earth." A naturalist-led discussion follows. Meet at Ford Nature Center.
Nov. 6: 2 p.m., a hike to explore the remote sections of the Vickers Nature Preserve in Ellsworth Township. This 200-acre preserve is named in honor of the park's first two naturalists, Ernest and Lindley Vickers, a father and son team. Wear sturdy footwear. Meet at Vickers Nature Preserve. Moderate difficulty because of length and terrain, 4 miles.
Nov. 6: noon to 5 p.m. Shop in the Gardens Holiday Open House..
Nov. 8: 5:30 to 8 p.m., Lynn Cardwell, a potter whose work follows a botanical theme, will teach students to construct a birdhouse embossed with autumn leaves. The work will be glazed, fired and ready for pickup after Nov. 22. Call (330) 740-7116 to register. Fee: $25 R, $32 NR.
Nov. 10: 10:45 or 11:30 a.m., 2-year-olds and their favorite adults will explore the life of a squirrel as it prepares for winter. Program includes storytime, outdoor role-playing games, and a colorful craft. Meet at Ford Nature Center. Preregister by calling (330) 740-7107.
Nov. 10: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., learn how to design and construct a garden journal. Various bookbinding styles will be displayed. You will bind a pamphlet journal and personalize it to suit your taste and gardening needs. Call (330) 740-7116 to register. Fee: $9 R, $12 NR.
Nov. 13: 2 p.m., join in a litter pickup as we hike the trails of Lake Cohasset. Bring work gloves. Meet at Ford Nature Center. Moderate difficulty with hills and steps, 3 miles.
Nov. 15: 5:30 to 8 p.m., Lynn Cardwell will teach students to construct a "green man" wall mask and share the related garden folklore. The work will be glazed, fired and ready for pickup after Nov. 29. Call (330) 740-7116 to register. Fee: $25 R, $32 NR.
Nov. 16: 9 a.m., meet at MetroParks Bikeway trailhead on Kirk Road for a hike. Easy rating, 2 or 4 miles.
Nov. 16: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., learn techniques of bulb forcing and interesting botanical information about bulbs. Participants will pot tulips and paperwhite bulbs to take home and force. Call (330) 740-7116 to register. Fee: $16 R, $21 NR.
Nov. 18: 10 a.m. or 12:30 p.m., preschoolers ages 3-5 have fun learning about raccoons. The children and their parents or guardians will enjoy a story, rhyme, craft and a den tree hunt. Preregister at Ford Nature Center. Fee: $2R, $3 NR.
Nov. 18: 11 a.m. to noon or 1-2 p.m., what kind of broom did Cinderella use to sweep the hearth? Preschoolers ages 3-5 with their favorite adults will make a small broom and learn how plants are important in making this handy tool. Call (330) 740-7116 to register. Fee: $4 R, $6 NR.
Nov. 18: 8:30 to 10 a.m., start your morning with a brisk walk in the gardens to admire plants belonging to the beech family. Return to the Garden Cafe to learn more while enjoying a light breakfast. Call (330) 740-7116 to register. Fee: $6 R, $8 NR.
Nov. 19: 10 a.m. Preschool Nature Hour about raccoons. (See above).
Nov. 19: 10 a.m. Cinderella broom program (See above).
Nov. 19: 1:30-3 p.m., each child 6 and older with an adult companion will make an unusual dried arrangement of flowers using an artichoke for the vase. We'll discuss the reason plants have flowers. Call (330) 740-7116 to register. Fee: $8 R, $11 NR.
Nov. 20: 2 p.m., we'll be on the lookout for signs of wildlife as we hike "Bear Swamp," better know as Hitchcock Woods. Meet at Deerpath Drive off Hitchcock Road. Moderate difficulty, 2 miles.
Nov. 22: 7 p.m., Audubon Society Mahoning Valley. Find out about the top 20 feeder birds in our area from Patrice Harvey of Wild Birds Unlimited. You can make a suet feeder to take home. Social time begins at 6:30 p.m.; program begins at 7 p.m. Held at the MetroParks Farm, Canfield.
Nov. 26-Nov. 27: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Olde Fashioned Christmas at the Mill. Lanterman's Mill will be dressed in holiday cheer. Taste chestnuts roasted on an open fire, and enjoy entertainment by a juggler, a bagpiper and other musicians. For more details, call (330) 740-7107.

Sunday buffet: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Georgetown announces the return of the Sunday buffet in the Garden Cafe in Fellows Riverside Gardens. Reservations are not necessary. Fee: $11.95 adults; $10.95 seniors; $8.95 children 12 and under.

Weller Gallery: Layer upon layer of molten glass has been transformed into shimmering, lustrous vessels by artist J. David Taylor. On display through Nov. 20.
Nov. 25-Jan. 1: "The Southwestern LanzScape." The photos of C. Scott Lanz capture some of the Southwest's unique landscapes, made even more spectacular by unusual weather conditions. The winter's heavy rainfall produced once-in-a-lifetime floral displays in California's Mojave Desert during spring 2005.
Melnick Museum: 75th anniversary of the Garden Forum. Fellows Riverside Gardens recognizes the forum's role in promoting gardening. Displays through December.
