Burdman Group installs officers



A Canfield woman received the agency's service award.
BOARDMAN -- Pamela Miles, jail services director for Community Corrections Association and former WFMJ TV anchor/reporter, was installed as president of Burdman Group Inc.'s board of directors at the social service agency's dinner meeting.
The event was Thursday at Antone's Banquet Centre here. Entertainment was provided by the Youngstown City Schools' ensemble group, the Youngstown Connection.
Burdman Group is celebrating its 35th anniversary.
Miles has been on the board since 2001. During her time, she has been the vice president, secretary and assistant treasurer. Miles also served on the Sojourner House Shelter Advisory Committee.
Services provided
Burdman Group is a contract agency of the Mahoning County Mental Health Board and Trumbull Lifelines as well as a Youngstown/Mahoning Valley United Way funded agency.
The agency offers vocational rehabilitation and residential treatment programming to individuals with mental illness in addition to providing comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence.
Burdman also offers vocational services to adults and youth in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties who are in need of specialized vocational planning because of special needs.
Programs run by Burdman throughout the tri-county area are Northeast Industries and Pine Industries, vocational rehabilitation services; Riverbend Center, Doris Burdman Home, Horizon House, Crossroads, residential facilities; Campbell Apartments, Maplewood Manor, Veritas House and Gardenview Apartments, independent housing; and the Sojourner House Domestic Violence Program.
Recognition
Dolores Tripp of Canfield was this year's recipient of the Doris Burdman Service Award. The award annually is given to individuals or organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to human services.
Over the last two years, Tripp has volunteered countless hours on Chefs' Secrets and Women's Wellness & amp; Wisdom, two Sojourner House fund-raising projects. She also gathers donations for the shelter on a regular basis and serves on the shelter advisory committee.
Several individuals who receive services from Burdman Group were honored at the dinner for their achievements. Also recognized were local businesses and organizations that hire the agency's vocational rehabilitation clients.
The businesses and organizations are A Plus Cleaning, Home Town Buffet, Autumn Hills Care Center, Humility of Mary Health Partners, Wee Care Day Care and Help Hotline Crisis Center.
Barbara Yonnotti was honored for her volunteer work at Sojourner House.
Other Burdman board officers installed at the meeting were Dennis Delon, president-elect; Dianna Mason, vice president; Paul Fridley, treasurer; Terry Cloonan, assistant treasurer and Jane Reid, secretary.
New board members are Christine Kuklinca, G. Marty Martinek and Patricia Murphy.
