Soprano's repertoire to include top works



Jeanie Darnell, an assistant voice teacher, will perform in Bliss Recital Hall.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University will present guest artist Jeanie Darnell, soprano, in a performance at 8 p.m. Nov. 12 at YSU's Bliss Recital Hall in the College of Fine and Performing Arts. The repertoire will include Ariettes Oubli & eacute;es by Claude Debussy, Cos & icirc; Fan Tutte by W.A. Mozart and Wesendonk Lieder by Richard Wagner.
A regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 1998, Darnell has appeared throughout the United States and Europe as a recital and concert artist. Darnell's recent concert performances include the role of Suor Angelica with the Operafestival di Roma, the soloist of opera excerpts with the International Chamber Ensemble in Rome, Italy, and the soloist in Brahms‚ Ein Deutsches Requiem with Masterworks of Nebraska Choral Arts Society in conjunction with the Omaha Symphony.
Darnell completed a doctor of music arts in vocal performance and vocal pedagogy from the University of Colorado-Boulder, a master of music in vocal performance from the University of Oklahoma, Norman, and a bachelor of arts in vocal performance from Austin Peay State University.
She is an assistant professor of voice at Ouachita Baptist University, where she teaches applied voice, voice literature and vocal pedagogy. Prior to teaching at Ouachita, she was an assistant professor of voice and voice area coordinator at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
