Concerts and discussions are among the plans.
CLEVELAND -- The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and Case Western Reserve University have announced plans for the 10th annual American Music Masters Series honoring Sam Cooke. Cooke was one of the most influential performers in the history of American popular music. His work cut across genres of gospel, R & amp;B and pop, and Cooke is credited as being one of soul music's primary architects.
Programs will be:
UScreening of "Sam Cooke: Legend" and talk with the director-producer Mary Wharton at 7 p.m. Monday in the Rock Hall fourth-floor theater. This event is free with a reservation.
U"Nearer My God to Thee!: A Tribute to Cleveland's Quartet Singers" will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Art Gallery at Trinity Cathedral, 2230 Euclid Ave., in collaboration with Cleveland State University. This event is free with a reservation.
UGospel master class with Horace Boyer, professor of music theory and African-American music at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Rock Hall. This event is free with a reservation. For these events, call (216) 515-8426.

Main events
The main tribute concert will be at 8 p.m. Nov. 5 at the State Theatre, Playhouse Square. Performers will include Aretha Franklin, Elvis Costello, Solomon Burke, Gavin DeGraw, The Dixie Hummingbirds, The Blind Boys of Alabama, The Manhattans, Cissy Houston, Peter Wolf, Taj Mahal, Otis Clay and William Bell. There will be a gospel tribute at 6 p.m. Nov. 6 at the State Theatre, Playhouse Square. Among the performers will be Franklin, Burke, Lou Rawls, The Dixie Hummingbirds, The Manhattans, Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child, Cissy Houston, and Otis Clay. Tickets for this concert are $15, $25 and $35 and are available through Tickets.com.
A conference will be from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 5 at Case Western Reserve University's Ford Theatre with registration at 9. Keynote speaker will be Peter Guralnick, author of "Dream Boogie: The Triumph of Sam Cooke," which was published by Little, Brown this month. Tickets to the conference are $30 and are available through Ticketmaster.
