Air quality tests ends at St. Joe's

AUSTINTOWN -- The school district has finished air quality testing at St. Joseph School to make sure there are no ill effects there from bus exhaust.
The state finished the tests this week, said schools Superintendent Douglas Heuer. It gave the district "a clean bill of health," he said.
Heuer was unsure which state department did the testing. He said the department of health was originally contacted, and it had referred the district to a different division. Schools transportation director Colleen Bagnoli was unable to be reached before press time.
Heuer said the test results are not official.
"But unofficially, they said they got no readings that would be of concern," he said.
Parents have told the school district that they're worried diesel exhaust is making their children sick.
Parents have said their children are spending more time on buses since transportation cuts changed bus routes. Some parents said their children have complained of nausea and headaches.
The district picked St. Joe's on New Road for the testing because it is the new central transfer point for pupils going to parochial schools, Heuer said.
