Ratings dip

Ratings dip: Ratings for Game 2 of the World Series dropped 30 percent following a 31 percent decrease for the opener. The 7-6 win by the Chicago White Sox over the Houston Astros on Sunday night got a 11.1 fast national rating and 17 share on Fox, Nielsen Media Research said Monday. Last year's second game between Boston and St. Louis received a 15.9/24, the highest-rated Game 2 since Atlanta's 4-3 victory over Cleveland in 1995 got a 19.4/31. The two-game average of 10.3 was down 30 percent from last year's 14.7/25 and was below the 10.7 average for the first two games of the 2002 Series between the Anaheim Angels and San Francisco Giants, which finished with a record-low 11.9 rating.
Tough town: Astros second baseman Craig Biggio played down an altercation between his wife, Patty, and a rowdy fan at U.S. Cellular Field on Sunday night. "It was one guy who acted like a 12-year-old, who slapped her upside the head," said Biggio. "I'm not going to sit here and hold all the Chicago fans accountable for this for one guy who was acting like an idiot." White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said Monday he was going to personally apologize to Biggio. "I know the security in Chicago is doing a great job and when something happens so quickly, you can't blame anybody," Guillen said. "I told the police, 'Don't put him in jail, bring him to me in the dugout.' Hopefully, that won't happen again."
Extra bases: Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan was scheduled to throw out the ceremonial first pitch for Game 3. Ryan, baseball's all-time strikeout leader, played for the Astros from 1980-88 and now works for the team.
