TAC-8 Lakeview pulls past Newton Falls; Champion rallies to topple LaBrae



NEWTON FALLS -- Lakeview rallied from a 14-point deficit to edge Newton Falls 17-14 in Trumbull Athletic Conference action Friday night.
Lakeview scored 14 points in the third period, then with 1:30 remaining in the contest, Ed Maragla's 22-yard field goal was the difference in the Bulldogs' victory.
Brett Davenport rushed for 83 yards on 19 carries for the Bulldogs.
Kevin Albert and Fred Socie scored on touchdown runs of 10 and 16 yards for Lakeview (6-3, 4-2).
George Davis paced the Tigers (1-8, 1-5) with 205 yards on 19 carries, which included TD runs of 45 and 43-yard runs.
Champion 13, LaBrae 6
CHAMPION -- Senior running back Chad Kinkead scored two touchdowns on runs of 25 and 59 yards and finished with 207 rushing yards in 24 attempts to lead Champion's comeback victory.
LaBrae (4-5, 2-4 TAC) took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on Dan Hartman's 2-yard run, and held the advantage until Champion (3-6, 2-4) rallied in the fourth quarter behind Kinkead.
He scored first on a 25-yard dash and then followed with a 59-yard jaunt capped by Ron Fularz' placement.
Matt Popadak added 56 yards rushing in 12 attempts for Champion.
Hartman passed for 153 yards on 6-for-15 and rushed for 47 yards in 16 carries to lead LaBrae, while Eric Hart contributed 83 rushing yards in 15 attempts.
