Mahoning Valley connection: Missouri State free safety Mike Radon is the grandson of Girard's J. Mickey Krizancic. His parents, Felix and Michele, are YSU graduates. Felix was a Penguins defensive back in the '70s while Michele was a cheerleader. Against the Penguins, Radon was second for the Bears in tackles with two solos and nine assists. He was raised in Buffalo and was high school teammates with YSU wide receiver Kyle Smith at St. Francis High School. Radon was an all-state quarterback while Smith was an all-state wide receiver. Radon is playing free safety for the first time, having converted from quarterback. After the season opener against Arkansas, Radon was selected Gateway Conference Defensive Player of the Week after making eight tackles in a 49-17 loss.
