Matt Kubik leads Louisiana Tech to victory

RUSTON, La. (AP) -- Matt Kubik passed for 283 yards and a touchdown to lead Louisiana Tech to a 40-14 victory over North Texas Saturday afternoon.
Kubik, who hooked up with tight end Anthony James for a 17-yard touchdown early in the second quarter, was 23-for-30 and also had 43 yards rushing for the Bulldogs (3-3).
Kubik is a Mooney High graduate.
Patrick Jackson had touchdown runs of 1 and 6 yards, Mark Dillard had a 3-yard TD carry and Danny Horwedel accounted for 16 points with four field goals and four conversion points. Horwedel had field goals of 30, 35, 39 and 46 yards.
Tech had a 30-0 lead after Horwedel kicked his 39-yarder in the third quarter. A 33-yard halfback reverse pass from running back Jamario Thomas to wideout Johnny Quinn brought North Texas (2-4) to within 30-14 before Tech countered with Horwedel's 30-yard field goal and Jackson's 6-yard touchdown.
Patrick Cobbs finished with 108 rushing for the Mean Green and quarterback Daniel Meager was 8-for-18 with 60 yards.
