CAMPBELL -- Police said they interrupted an armed home invasion by three men on McCartney Road and chased one of the suspects several blocks to his home on Chatham Lane in Youngstown.
Police said they found Marco D. Hammond Jr., 18, of 87 Chatham Lane, hiding under some insulation in the attic crawl space.
He was identified by police as one of three men who forced their way into the home of James Miller, 57, of 437 McCartney Road, just after noon Thursday.
Miller and a second man in the home, Mark Poulos, 41, of Old Winter Trail, Poland, said all three of the men were carrying handguns and demanded money and the keys to a safe.
Police said a third person was upstairs in the McCartney Road house and dialed 911 for help.
Police said the three men took two gold watches belonging to Miller.
When police arrived
Officers said they saw a man trying to crawl out a rear window as police went around the house. He went back inside and, moments later, all three suspects ran out the front door, police said.
Two escaped, but the officer chasing the man later identified as Hammond was able to keep him in sight.
Police chased him several blocks on foot and then in a cruiser before Hammond reached his Chatham Lane address and ran in the front door.
An older man let police into the house and game them permission to search it. Youngstown police assisted Campbell officers. Police said they found the two stolen watches in a pocket of Hammond's jacket lying on the kitchen floor.
Police said they found Hammond and a 9mm Ruger handgun in the attic.
Hammond was arraigned Friday on charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, carrying a concealed weapon and obstructing official business.
He was lodged in Mahoning County Jail with bond set at $100,000 and faces preliminary and pretrial hearings at 9 a.m. Friday in Campbell Municipal Court.
