After brawl, 6 teens face charges

Five boys are in a detention center at least until a Monday hearing.
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) -- Five teenagers were sent to Lehigh County's juvenile detention center in connection with a brawl involving dozens of people, police said.
A sixth suspect, the only girl charged so far, was released to her family, police said. All the teens charged are students at Parkland High School.
South Whitehall Township police Sgt. Tom Gersbach said Friday that he expected more arrests from the fight, which happened Oct. 1 at the former Troxell Middle School and involved 35 to 40 students.
What happened
It began as a dispute between two youths in late summer and escalated over several weeks, culminating in the brawl, police said. Police said the participants moved the fight several times, using cell phones to communicate between five or six carloads of people.
A hearing is scheduled for Monday in the Lehigh County Courthouse to determine whether the teens remain at the juvenile detention center or are released pending an adjudication hearing.
Gersbach said a 16-year-old boy is charged with three felonies: criminal conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, criminal conspiracy to commit simple assault and criminal use of a communications device. That boy is also charged with disorderly conduct and criminal solicitation to commit aggravated and simple assaults, Gersbach said.
A 16-year-old boy and two 17-year-old boys are charged with criminal conspiracy to commit aggravated and simple assault, and disorderly conduct, police said. The girl, who is 17, and a 15-year-old boy are charged with criminal conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, criminal conspiracy to commit simple assault, and criminal use of a communications device, police said.
