Production seeksIwo Jima survivors
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The New Castle Marine Corps League is seeking survivors of the Battle of Iwo Jima from any branch of the Armed Forces.
The league has been invited to participate in the New Castle Playhouse production of "Freedom Flags," a concert hosted by national entertainer Cahal Dunne and including the Shovlin Academy of Irish Dancers. Part of the concert will be a tribute to U.S. Marines and will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima. The Marine Corps Film Archives has provided a copy of the footage that Marine Corps cameramen took of the beach landing and flag raising, and a showing of part of this video will be included in the tribute.
Survivors can call (724) 667-9422 for further information. Those interested in attending the Nov. 4 concert at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in New Castle should contact the Playhouse at (724) 654-3437.
