Concert workshop
YOUNGSTOWN -- The mass choir of Tabernacle Baptist Church, 707 Arlington St., will have a pre-robe concert workshop at 6 p.m. Oct. 20-22 with James Ferguson, minister of music, offering instruction in spiritual aspects of music ministry. Afternoon of spirituality
WARREN -- The Benedictine Sisters of the Byzantine Church at Queen of Heaven Monastery, 8640 Squires Lane N.E., will offer an afternoon of spirituality from 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 15. Monsignor Alexis Mihalik, pastor of Infant Jesus of Prague Byzantine Catholic Church, Boardman, will speak on "The Significance of the Transfiguration in Byzantine Theology, Spirituality and Art." PornSunday observance
BOARDMAN -- New Hope Community Church, 493 Bev Road, will observe PornSunday on Oct. 9 with services at 9:30 and 11:15 a.m. focusing on the issue of pornography. The movie, "Missionary Positions," will be shown at 6 p.m. The film, produced and directed by Bill Day, won best documentary at the West Valley Independent Film Festival and was a runner-up at the Nashville Film Festival for best feature documentary. Series of sermons
CANFIELD -- This weekend, the Rev. Donald Hall of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 3755 S. Raccoon Road, will begin an eight-week series of sermons on recreation and recovery that will explore addictions in life. Among topics will be overeating, gambling, overworking, grief, divorce, guilt, abuse, overspending, anger, fear and need to control. Services are at 8 and 10 a.m. Sundays.
Respect Life Month
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Catholic Diocese of Youngstown will celebrate the Year of the Eucharist and Respect Life Month during a Eucharistic procession at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Dominic Church, 77 E. Lucius Ave. Monsignor Robert J. Siffrin, diocesan administrator, will preside at the evening prayer and procession. After benediction, a spaghetti dinner will be hosted by the Knights of Columbus. Reservations aren't required.
St. John's healing service
YOUNGSTOWN -- A service of healing, including Communion, is planned at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave. Members of the congregation may participate in laying-on-of-hands ceremony if they wish.
Rescue Sunday set
YOUNGSTOWN -- Rescue Sunday will be observed during services at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Mount Sinai Baptist Church, 328 Forest Ave. Promise Keepers, a men's movement to help youth stay out of trouble and strengthen relationships between Christian men, will distribute Bibles to young people. The Rev. Ricky Riggs will speak.
Play to be staged
LAKE MILTON -- The 34 West Theater Company will present the comedy "Fish Eyes" at the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday at Lakeview Assembly of God, 17930 Mahoning Ave. The two-man play depicts the lives of disciples, Andrew and Peter. The play is being staged to raise awareness concerning the startup of Newton Falls Assembly of God Church at the VFW hall, Arlington Road, Newton Falls.

WARREN -- Evangelist Rod L. Hennings will speak at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Body of Christ Church of God in Christ, 2025 W. Market St., during "Stand One Night." Hennings is on the regional television broadcast, "It's a Matter of Dominion," at 7 p.m. Mondays on Channel 49-WNYB, TCT network. He organized Zion Dominion Church of God in Christ.
Pet blessings
Second-graders at St. Christine School, 3125 S. Schenley Ave., Youngstown, will have a pet blessing at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the upper school parking lot. St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church, corner of Kirk and Raccoon Roads, Austintown, will have blessing of animals at 6 p.m. Thursday by the Rose Lake building. POLAND -- Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 2985 Center Road, will present a women's outreach program, "10 Smart Choices Any Woman Can Make," at 7 p.m. Oct. 10. Devi Titus, who has 30 years in the ministry, will speak. Child care will be provided.

Peace Pole dedication
YOUNGTOWN -- First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave., will dedicate its new Peace Pole at 9:45 a.m. Sunday. The Peace Pole, part of an international Peace Prayer project, was purchased by the church's deacon board and includes the prayer "May Peace Prevail on Earth" in four languages: Arabic, English, Hebrew and Spanish. Sunday marks World Communion Sunday in many Christian traditions. It also is the time of the annual Peacemaking Offering as a sign of a renewed commitment to bringing God's peace in families and communities, among races and nations and within all creation.
Conference on healing
CANFIELD -- Lifecare Ministry Center, Lucille Orr Ministries Inc., 5357 Raccoon Road, will sponsor a conference on the basics of healing including speakers and practical application from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 15. YOUNGSTOWN -- Minister Marva Parker of New Bethel Baptist Church is one of the woman ministers licensed by the Rev. Lonnie K.A. Simon, pastor emeritus of New Bethel. Her name was omitted from an article Sept. 24 on the Rev. Mr. Simon and the woman ministers he has licensed and ordained. Mr. Simon will be honored at 6 p.m. Oct. 9 at New Bethel in a Humanitarian Recognition Program sponsored by the Interdenominational Clergywomen's Alliance and his spiritual daughters.
