Parole is denied for murderer

WARREN -- The Ohio Adult Parole Authority has denied parole to a Warren man who killed a Niles man in Howland Township in 1992.
A parole hearing was held last week for Joseph M. Dudley, 45, formerly of Willard Avenue Southeast, and the Parole Authority denied the parole for at least five years, said Miriam Fife, Trumbull County Common Pleas court advocate.
Fife said the family of the victim, William Peterson, who was 45 at the time of the killing, attended the parole hearing to speak against his parole. Dudley is being incarcerated at the Trumbull Correctional Institute. He is due for his next parole hearing in 2010, parole authority records indicate. Dudley was convicted April 13, 1993, after pleading guilty to murder and was sentenced to 15 years to life.
At the time of his sentencing, Dudley said he fired a handgun at Peterson three times as the victim sat in a car that had been tailgating the one in which he was traveling. The shooting occurred at Fairview Avenue and Ridge Avenue Southeast.
Dudley said he fired the gun because he was drunk and also had been told by another man, Roger Hunt, that the clip of cartridges had been removed. Dudley said he pulled the trigger because he and Hunt noticed Peterson had been tailgating them and Hunt suggested they go out and scare him.
At the time of sentencing, the victim's sister said Dudley showed no remorse. Fife said right after the shooting, Dudley was heard bragging that it was a "great execution."
