Shooting victim critical
YOUNGSTOWN -- Shooting victim Charles E. Cole Jr., 19, of Cornell Street was in critical condition Monday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Police found Cole lying in the Taco Bell parking lot on Market Street around 2:30 a.m. Monday. One bullet and five .45-caliber casings were collected, police said.
Truck, sprayers missing
YOUNGSTOWN -- A passer-by who noticed an open gate at Youngstown Spray Equipment on Southern Boulevard and saw a man run out at 3:30 a.m. Monday called police. The business owner told police that his 1988 Chevrolet pickup truck worth $4,000 and two industrial sprayers worth $6,000 were missing.
Boy robbed, assaulted
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 16-year-old Austintown boy taking empty boxes to a trash bin from Pizza Joe's on Canfield Road was punched and robbed around 7 p.m. Sunday by four males wearing black puffy jackets and white baseball caps, police said. The boy said his hands were held behind his back during the beating and his cell phone and wallet were taken.
Family Dollar robbed
YOUNGSTOWN -- A gunman robbed the Family Dollar store on Belmont Avenue around 7 p.m. Sunday, police said.
Gunman robs boy, 16
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 16-year-old East Avondale Avenue boy skating with friends in the parking lot of Ally's Food Store on South Avenue was robbed of $15 at gunpoint at 5:15 p.m. Sunday, police said. The suspect was described as 18 and wearing a blue skull cap.
Blaze began in bedroom
YOUNGSTOWN -- A fire at 2728 Griselda Ave. likely started in a bedroom around 3 a.m. Sunday, fire officials said. No injuries were reported, and the cause remains under investigation. Damage to the house and contents was estimated at $15,000. Mahoning County records show the house was built in 1900.
Portion of road to close
AUSTINTOWN -- Ohltown Road between Turner and Silica roads will be closed Saturday for replacement of a culvert, said Mahoning County Engineer Richard A. Marsico, who added that he expects the work to be completed that day.
Officer hears gunshots
YOUNGSTOWN -- A city police detective sergeant traveling southbound on South Avenue just before 6 p.m. Sunday said he passed a traffic crash at Indianola Avenue, saw a man with a gun and heard two gunshots, which he believes were fired at him. The suspect went west on Indianola and got away.
Store sees 4th break-in
CAMPBELL -- The Family Dollar store, 349 Robinson Road, was broken into Monday for the fourth time this month. The break-in was reported at 12:05 p.m., according to police reports.
A rock was used to shatter the front window, and wristwatches on several shelves were stolen. The same method of entry was used in break-ins Nov. 22, 21 and 11, police said.
Lane on bridge closes
SHARPSVILLE, Pa. -- The westbound lane of the Kelly Road bridge in South Pymatuning Township was closed Monday because of its deteriorating condition and will remain closed indefinitely. Traffic is restricted to one lane.

YSU to offer new degree
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State University will offer a new two-year degree in power plant technology through partnerships with Jefferson Community College and Belmont Technical College, YSU officials said.
Graduates with an associate degree of technical studies in power plant technology will be prepared for careers as power plant technicians through classes at YSU and either JCC or BTC. The degree will carry the name of both institutions.
