Canfield stars, coach get honors

COLUMBUS -- Three players from Canfield and the coach received the highest honors on the Associated Press Division II All-Ohio football team.
The Cardinals (14-0), who will play Toledo Central Catholic for the state championship, had three players make first team and five overall receive mention. The first team selections were senior lineman Nick Rousher, senior running back Angelo Babbaro and senior linebacker Kyle Banna.
Pavlansky shares honor
Also, Mike Pavlansky shared coach of the year honors with four others, including his cousin, Paul Farrah of Louisville.
Sean Baker was named second team as a linebacker, and Joe Rosko was named special mention.
Joining the Canfield players on the first team was Rayen School's Dwayne Smith, a senior defensive back.
Named to the second team were East Liverpool's Joey Wines, at quarterback, and Lloyd Hendershot, at linebacker, and senior running back Lance Smith of Howland.
John Simballa, Marcus Collins and Travis Weyand of East Liverpool were also named special mention.
Fitch's Reedy named
In Div. I, Fitch senior offensive lineman Pat Reedy was named to the second team, and a trio of Warren Harding players -- Levi George, Dan Herron and Tony Reed -- were selected special mention.
The offensive players of the year in Div. I were quarterback Alex Earley of Huber Heights Wayne and running back Morgan Williams of Canton McKinley.
In Div. II, the top offensive star was Copley running back Delone Carter.
On the defensive side in Div. II, the honoree was lineman Jake Ballard of Springboro.
The top defensive player in Div. I was linebacker Tyler Moeller of Cincinnati Colerain.
Div. I top coaches
The Div. I coaches of the year were Steve Specht of poll champion Cincinnati St. Xavier, along with Jason Hall of Lyndhurst Brush and Hilliard Davidson's Brian White.
In Div. II, the other honorees were Mark Hundley of Dublin Jerome, Willoughby South's Matt Duffy and Toledo Central Catholic's Greg Dempsey.
Earley, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound senior, completed 181-of-291 passes for 2,492 yards and 26 touchdowns and also ran 105 times for 566 yards and five more scores for a team that went 9-1 in the regular season.
Williams, a 5-11, 190-pound junior, carried 186 times for 1,935 yards and 24 touchdowns, averaging better than 10 yards per carry. He finished with more than 2,400 all-purpose yards for the Bulldogs.
Carter, who took the offensive honors in Div. II, is a 5-10, 200-pound senior headed for Syracuse. He rushed for 2,440 yards on 250 carries with 43 touchdowns. In one game, he rushed for 438 yards and scored six TDs.
Future Buckeyes
Defensively in Div. II, Ballard is a 6-7, 268-pound senior who is headed for Ohio State. He led his team to a perfect 10-0 mark while earning his second consecutive first-team all-state honor.
In Div. I, Moeller -- who is also an Ohio State signee -- stockpiled 12 sacks while leading Colerain's defense.
