Yamaguchi, 34, was the gold medalist at the Olympic games at Albertville, France, in 1992. She met Hedican, a defenseman for the NHL Carolina Hurricanes, at a gala to celebrate the opening of a hockey arena in 1995. They married in Hawaii in 2000.
Yamaguchi was selected this year for induction into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame.
Report: While in Shanghai,Cruise evades the press
SHANGHAI, China -- Tom Cruise kept a low profile while shooting scenes for "Mission Impossible 3," eluding the hordes of reporters staking out his hotel.
"Hide-and-seek with brother Tom," said a headline in the Shanghai Morning Post above pictures of Cruise's white van pulling away from the plush Four Season hotel where the star is staying. Cruise wasn't shown in any of the pictures.
Cruise arrived in the city early last week aboard a private jet, Shanghai press reported. He was reportedly spotted strolling near his hotel on Monday evening, but has otherwise stayed clear of the press and fans.
Newspapers said Cruise was to begin filming scenes Thursday in Xitang, a village of old tile-roof stone houses perched along waterways about an hour outside the city center.
He is expected to stay in Shanghai for up to 10 days, newspapers said.
Cruise's management could not be reached and Yvonne Mu, a public relations officer with the Four Seasons, declined to give details about his stay.
Cruise is both starring in and co-producing the third installment in the "Mission Impossible" series, which also has filmed scenes in Rome and at an 18th-century palace north of Naples, Italy. Directed by J.J. Abrams, the film is due for released in May.

ROME -- Irish rocker Bob Geldof appealed for fair trade Thursday as he received a peace award in Rome that recognizes his campaigns against poverty.
Geldof, dressed in a striped suit, received the Man for Peace award from former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, who heads the foundation that hands out the prize, and Rome Mayor Walter Veltroni.
He also joined those pressing for the European Union to cut tariffs on farm products ahead of next month's World Trade Organization talks in Hong Kong.
