Singers sought for Martin Luther King choir
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Martin Luther King Planning Committee of Mahoning County is recruiting singers to perform in a 125-voice multiracial, multiethnic and multidenominational choir in celebration of the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King.
Singers of all ages are encouraged to participate in the choir, which will highlight the second annual "Musical Tribute to Martin Luther King" on Jan. 14 at Powers Auditorium.
The first rehearsal of the choir, under the direction of Arnold J. Wagner, is set for 7 p.m. Dec. 6 at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave., downtown Youngstown.
There is no RSVP to participate. Interested singers need only attend rehearsal and join.
The concert on Jan. 14 is part of the MLK Committee's three-day celebration titled "King's Mandate: Increase the Peace."
Plans are under way for a Community Service of Worship at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at Price Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, 920 Dryden Ave., and for a Community Workshop on Jan. 16 at First Presbyterian Church.
